5, 2012, our beloved Rocky passed. All that knew and loved him miss him. We
miss his faith, strength and courage. Even after his catastrophic injury in
2000, Rocky, our superhero helped mentor and coach other student athletes. He
passed out school supplies to the children of Robbins. He was a college
student, comedian, poet, artist, and an avid sports connoisseur and dog lover. Rocky
was a chef and with the help of his sister, made an excellent rub with secret
ingredients. All these things and more
he did from the confines of his bed. We are so blessed to have had Rocky in our
world and in our lives. Now, with Rocky’s Law in affect, student athletes are
better protected and are insured to have a better quality of life after having
a catastrophic school related injury thanks to Rocky and his mom, Annette! Rocky, you taught us how to live! We will never, ever forget your smile, your generosity and your Spirit! Thank you for touching my life and so many others!

Some memorable emails from Rocky's fans:

"Hi Rocky, I just had to write and tell you how much your story has moved my heart! I too am disabled, but no where as bad as you. I feel great shame right now as just a few days ago I was thinking of ending my life. You and your story have been a great wake up call for me. I am a Christian, Roman Catholic for the record, but I have, or had, lost my faith a little. I too was feeling what did I do or say that might have caused my condition. In my case I was an abused child that turned to food to get my abuser, my father, to leave me alone because he hated fat people. That led to a food addiction that caused me to grow to 914 pounds by 2002. I lived in Des Planes Illinois at the time and wound up in St. Francis Hospital in Evanston Illinois for 19 months. I had gastric bypass surgery and am now down to 304 pounds, but the damage to my body by all that weight and the the conditions, like diabetes have let me with constant pain, great depression, and a feeling a great loneliness. I'm 49 years old but my doctors tell me my body is the body of a 99 year old man. They don't know how long my body will keep going and that combined with the pain have almost driven me insane. Then I find you story on the web this morning, and I'm like, oh my God, here is a young man who is not giving up on life after such a horrible accident and is trying to motivate others to not give up, wow!! I am humbled ashamed at my thought of giving up after reading your story. Thank you and God Bless you and your mother Rocky, I pray that God and the medical world find a way for you to heal and find the money and the medical needs you need and deserve!! It is a real honor living in a world with a young man like you!! With warm regards, "
"Rocky, I am praying for you and your family. Please stay strong and think positive. Others have legs that walk and arms that wave but don't have the ability to touch lives like you do with your courage and never give up attitude. :0) Smile....."
"Hello Rocky, I read your story in the Modesto Bee -(Modesto, CA). You are such a inspiration to so many. I live in Oakdale California, a one high school town, that lives and breaths for "Friday night lights". I have seen many kids get hurt out on there on the field, but were lucky enough not to sustain any major injury. Hopefuly your story will make parents look into what type of insurance a school has before sending there child out there on the field. It is ashame what this school and insurance company has done to you and your family, it is just not right, not right at all. Don't give up young man, continue getting your story out there. I say write to Oprah or other Television talk show host and make your story known WORLD WIDE. What has been done to you is a complete injustice. When money becomes more important than human life it makes one question the world we live in. Keep being the inspiration that you are and don't ever give up. God Bless You!"
"I just read about your story in the NY Times and wanted to say have brave and amazing you and your mother are. I wish our country had a better healthcare system to provide the care you need without being such a huge financial drain on your family. You are an amazing person"
"Rocky, my heart goes out to you and your precious mother. Reading your story, I am overwhelmed. Your obvious strength and determination is motivating to me, and being a child of God I know He has sustained you through all of this. God has gotten you this far and I know His will for your life will be done. I am going to tell your story to others and will tell them of the things you and your mother need. I personally hope to send you some of the items. Remember earth is only a preparation ground for a new life in Christ. Know that your body will be renewed with the wonderful spirit I feel that you possess. I will keep you and your mom in my prayers."
"I just heard about your story on TV One.The story truly touch me. Keep your spirits high and believe thru Christ all thing are possible. I will continue to keep you and your mother in my prayers. Your Sis in Christ."
"Rocky, I just viewed your story on TV One and I'm still shaking and crying. It really touched me. My son was an aspiring basketball great but his life was cut short due to a swimming accident-he died five years ago. I certainly connect with you and your mother and I would like to help and connect with you. I'm searching your website for guidance on helping. In the mean time I'm praying for you and your mother. Your passion for the sport matched my son's passion-he lived, breathed and dreamed basketball. "
"Hello Rocky, I had the opportunity to view your story on "Will to Live". I am truly inspired by the faith of you and your mother. I pray that God continues to take care of you. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes and I am completely marveled and amazed by your strength and faith. I pray that on this eve of Christmas that God will continue to bless you and your mother. I believe that God has many blessings in store for you and your mom. Keep the faith! "
"Hi Rocky, I am still praying for you as always! I have been very busy lately but you are always on my mind. I ran the 15k race at the beginning of this month and I finished in good time! I am on track to run the half marathon in about two and a half hours. We are about 95 days away from the BIG DAY!! :-) I recently started working with a personal trainer to help me improve some more. I have to admit I am starting to get a little anxious (in a good way) about the upcoming race! This will be THE most important race I will have run to date. And it's all for you, Rocky! I pray you and Ms. Annette have a blessed and Merry Christmas!"
"I miss you brother!! I know your running with Jesus now. My son now wears #21 in football in your honor!!"
"Dear Ms Annette Clark, I saw on the news yesterday that your son, Rocky, passed away. I am so sorry for your loss OF YOUR TRULY AMAZING SON, RASUL. I am sorry that, not only did Rocky, & you have to deal with such a devastating, & forever life-changing injury--but I am so sorry that you had to battle your insurance company too! And since Insurance Companies won't apologize for the unfair, unjust things that they do--I want to apologize for them! I am so sorry for what your insurance company put you & Rocky through! It hurts my heart to know the overwhelming situation your insurance company put you & Rocky through...& I'm so sorry for the added stress they placed on both of you. Insurance companies are so uncaring, cold hearted, & unjust! And they shouldn't be able to get away with it! I am so sorry that your insurance company made life so difficult for Rocky & you...& for the overwhelming situation they caused you! Sorry you had to go through that! But I wanted to let you know that your son, Rocky, was truly amazing! He handled everything with such GRACE. And you should be very proud of yourself for raising such an amazing son! He was such an inspiration to me, & will dearly be missed. I have a quote on my desk that says, "A Winner is one who keeps on trying"...and your son, Rocky, is a Winner! Sorry for your loss, & God Bless! "
"What lucky people you are to have had Rocky as a part of your life, and I, too, to have learned of him just this morning by accident. I live in Florida, but happened to be watching WGN News at 1:00 (my time) when I saw Rocky's story. He was a beautiful person, and I will do what I can financially in his honor. I know you will keep the faith as God has his reasons for everything. You are all an inspiration to the rest of us. Your lack of bitterness and positive attitude put me to shame when I wimper and gripe over ridiculous problems. I wish I could've known Angel Rocky in person. My blessings to you all."
"Sending my condolences to a family I never knew- Rocky's strength and faith is deeply admired. His story- changed my perspective on life and what I think of as a struggle. God sent a message through him- He is now running through the heavens- My prayers to the family- the battle was long but memories and lessons learned were PRICELESS! Mrs Clark you blessed the world with a gift. Thank you - God Bless"
